Japan Airlines (JAL) chairman Isao Kaneko has retired from the carrier's board, just two months after he resigned as chief executive to be replaced by Toshiyuki Shinmachi. JAL says that its board has approved the appointment of Kaneko as a senior adviser to the JAL Group. Kaneko stood down slightly earlier than planned after JAL was given a dressing down by the regulators over technical safety oversights.

Pakistan's government has appointed Tariq Kirmani as the new chairman of state-owned Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Tariq replaced Ahmed Saeed, who resigned after four years with the carrier.

An Australian couple has taken over management of New Zealand's Origin Pacific. Dallas Hay is the new chief executive and his wife Susan is manager of customer and passenger services. Both come from Australia's O'Connor Airlines.

Derek Lewitton, United Airlines' director of distribution strategy and planning, has left the carrier to join ITA Software as vice-president of sales.

Angela Gittens, former director of the Miami-Dade County Aviation Department and a previous general manager of Atlanta Hartsfield, has joined engineering group HNTB as vice-president of airport business services.
