Hung adds Vietnam Air role

Vietnam Airlines chairman Nguyen Sy Hung has taken on the additional role of president - the first time the state-owned carrier has had the same person in both positions.

Hung, 58, replaced Nguyen Xuan Hien, who retired after more than six years as president and chief executive. Hien was the top executive during a period during which the airline modernised its fleet and recorded strong growth in passenger traffic.

Hung took over soon after the government earmarked the airline for partial privatisation, which is expected next year through an initial public offering.

The airline has said it plans to continue with aggressive expansion plans in the years ahead. It aims to more than double the size of its fleet by 2015.
