The US Federal Aviation Administration has withdrawn a proposed rule requiring all US pilots to replace their paper pilot certificates with plastic, "counterfeit-resistant" ones.

It will re-evaluate the plan to incorporate suggestions from Congress that certificates should include photographs and possibly biometric data.

Pilot representative bodies, such as the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, are working closely with Congress to ensure that the proposals do not put a heavy financial burden on individual pilots.
