Bravo Industries has announced that it will purchase 10 Lockheed Martin LM-100J commercial freighters.
Launching the acquisition at the Farnborough air show on 12 July was JR Pereira, president and chief executive of Bravo Industries; a logistics and defence group running operations in Brazil and throughout South America.
“The LM-100J will give us the ability to reach under-served regions, where there is often a lack of ground support and critical infrastructure required to operate other commercial cargo freighters," he says.
Bravo will receive its first LM-100J during the last quarter of 2019 and the last by mid-2020.
“Our plans are to build five hubs – at Goiâna near Brasilia, Manas, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and São Paolo – to base the aircraft and distribute cargo and logistics over 71 routes," Pereira says. "These hubs will serve 65% of the major cargo that comes into Brazil.”
At the Farnborough air show in 2014, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics announced that it was going through the process of obtaining US Federal Aviation Administration certification for the LM-100J; a process which it expects to have completed by the early part of 2018.
Meanwhile, the first LM-100J is currently on the production line and is due to make its debut flight in the first half of next year.
Lockheed confirms that it already had orders and letters of intent for 15 aircraft, including 10 with Ireland-based ASL Aviation and an unidentified customer. It is also in discussion with buyers for another potential 15 aircraft, and sees a total requirement of around 100 LM-100Js.
