Emirates has confirmed that Engine Alliance's GP7200 powerplants will be fitted to the additional 32 Airbus A380 aircraft it ordered in June.
The Dubai-based carrier's chairman, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, and Engine Alliance president Mary Ellen Jones signed the $4.8 billion contract during a ceremony at Farnborough on Monday. The deal also includes a fleet management agreement for maintenance, repair and overhaul of the engines.
"GP7200 engines are powering the 11 A380 aircraft currently operating in our fleet and the results have been very positive," said Al-Maktoum. "The engine's fuel efficiency, reliability and low noise output were decisive factors in our selection of the product for our additional 32 A380s."
The latest deal means that all 90 of the A380s ordered by Emirates will be powered by GP7200 engines.
