Two Asian airlines have chosen to equip their new Boeing aircraft with blended winglets.

China's Hainan Airlines will install blended winglets on 45 737-800s, says Aviation Partners Boeing.

"Blended winglets are especially well suited for Hainan's operations, which include a mix of long- and short-range routes operated from some challenging airports at high utilisation," says Aviation Partners Boeing.

"In addition to fuel savings, the airline sees benefits from reduced engine take-off thrust, reduced emissions, greater payload and range capability, and greater operational flexibility."

Hainan is also considering equipping its Boeing 767-300ER fleet with blended winglets, adds Aviation Partners Boeing.

Japan's All Nippon Airways also exercised options to purchase blended winglets for its five new 767-300ERs that will be delivered from 2011.

"Added to their initial order of four, finalised in August 2009, this new order brings ANA's commitment for 767-300ER blended winglets to nine systems," says Aviation Partners Boeing.

The first installation of the winglets on ANA's 767-300ERs will start in September at ANA's facility in Haneda, it adds.

Aviation Partners Boeing is a Seattle-based joint venture winglet manufacturer between Aviation Partners and Boeing.
