Leadership consultancy JARA is marking this year's 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain by creating its own version of the iconic operations room at Fighter Command HQ.

During the battle, the progress of each enemy raid was plotted on a map table using counters colour-coded according to the time of sighting and moved across the map using magnetic "rakes". This simple system enabled battle commanders to see where each formation was heading, to estimate targets and make quick decisions about defensive action.

The battle plan JARA is showcasing represents its mission to make contact with as many of its target prospects as possible during the show. A giant printout of the show floor plan is being marked with coloured flag pins to co-ordinate the movements of JARA's consultants in real time.

JARA "squadrons" are being deployed in different sectors of the exhibition halls each day, their progress being reported back by text to "fighter command" and represented on the battle map by toy soldiers carrying the respective squadron flag. Squadrons report to the stand HQ three times each day to review progress and tactics and compete for a prize for the best team.

Managing director Jamil Rashid says: "We wanted to come up with a really visual way to demonstrate JARA's approach to managing the detail of day-to-day tasks better. Like everyone else, we're at Farnborough to sell a product - we call it Structured Leadership - so what better way to do so than show it in action?"

JARA is supporting the Battle of Britain Wings Appeal and supports the welfare services provided by the RAF Association to serving and past members of the RAF and their families.
