African budget carrier Fastjet is intending to open services to the Malawian capital Lilongwe this month.
The airline states that it has been granted a foreign operator’s permit from authorities in the state.
Fastjet, which uses Airbus single-aisle jets, plans to serve the route from Dar es Salaam to Lilongwe twice-weekly.
The decision will expand Fastjet’s international African network to six destinations.
“This significant step links two thriving commercial centres and provides the population of both countries with an affordable and reliable air service,” says chief executive Ed Winter.
Flightglobal’s Innovata schedules database indicates that Ethiopian Airlines serves the route.
