Central European budget carrier Wizz Air is staying with the International Aero Engines V2500 powerplant for the 50 Airbus A320s the carrier ordered last year.
The airline is already a committed customer for the IAE product, with 18 aircraft fitted with the engine type and another 23 on order which are also to be V2500-equipped.
Wizz Air disclosed the agreement, which includes aftermarket servicing, during the Farnborough air show today. The deal will make the low-fare operator IAE’s largest European customer.
IAE says its ‘SelectOne’ technology upgrade to the V2500, which provides a 1% fuel-burn improvement, will enable Wizz Air to make “significant savings” over the engines’ lifetime.
Wizz Air values the agreement at around $1.6 billion.
