Honeywell has received a US Federal Aviation Administration technical standard order and the first supplemental type certificate for its Bendix/King KGP 560 Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) for general aviation aircraft.

The KGP 560, which has been approved for installation on a Pilatus PC-12 single-engined turboprop, is the first FAA-approved Class B terrain awareness and warning system (TAWS) and the first product designed and built specifically for GA aircraft.

Based on Honeywell's air transport EGPWS, the 0.68kg (1.5lb), $9,250 KGP 560 is designed to be installed in a number of configurations to fit any GA aircraft, says the company.

The system has an internal global positioning system (GPS) receiver; a peaks mode, which shows terrain below the aircraft and GPS-derived geometric altitude; a worldwide terrain database; and a database with all the man-made obstacles in North America.
