United Parcel Service (UPS) Airlines has received the first of 13 converted Boeing MD-11 freighters it agreed to buy in 1999. Boeing is managing the acquisition of the ex-airline aircraft, which are being converted by Singapore Technologies Aerospace. The first aircraft, an ex-VASP example, was converted by ST Aero's subsidiary, SASCO in Singapore. Two more MD-11Fs are to be delivered to UPS later this month.

Airbus chief executive Guillaume Faury admits that the airframer was not expecting to be negotiating an acquisition of key aircraft programmes from beleaguered US firm Spirit AeroSystems, but insists it is necessary and that Airbus is ready to absorb them.
