McDonnell Douglas (MDC) at Salt Lake City, Utah, has completed the first empennage subassembly for the MD-95 100-seat regional twinjet. The empennage has been shipped to the Douglas Aircraft factory at Long Beach, California, where it will be mated with the aircraft's horizontal stabiliser. Final assembly of the first MD-95 is scheduled to be completed early in 1998, with the first flight due to follow in the second quarter of that year - assuming that the programme survives the planned acquisition of MDC by Boeing.
