An air ambulance configured Piper Chieftain crashed on approach to Liverpool Airport in the UK on 14 June killing the five passengers and crew. The light aircraft, operated by Blackpool-based Air Navigation and Trading, was transferring a patient from the nearby Isle of Man when it crashed 400 yards from the runway into the River Mersey. An investigation into the cause of the crash is being undertaken by the UK Air Accident Investigation Branch.
