Airbus’s order rush in December centred heavily on single-aisle activity, with two undisclosed orders alone accounting for 147 A320neo-family aircraft.
One of these orders unveiled by Airbus in its final 2018 figures amounted to 80 A320neos, while the other, for 67 jets, comprised 17 A321neos and 50 A320neos.
The airframer’s backlog update also featured lessor Avolon’s deal for 100 aircraft – made up of 25 A321neos and 75 A320neos – plus four A321neos assigned to an unidentified customer.
Airbus also formally listed orders for 135 A220s, as it firmed agreements for JetBlue Airways, Moxy and Delta Air Lines.
These brought the airframer's gross single-aisle orders for December to 386.
Long-haul sales activity, however, remained slow during the final month of the year, with orders for just six aircraft.
Airbus recorded orders for four A350s, including a single -1000, for an undisclosed customer, while an order for two A330-300, also for an unidentified buyer, rounded off the year’s business.
Net orders for the year totalled 747.
These included 541 A320-family jets and 135 A220s. Airbus took orders for 27 A330s, of which 18 were A330neos, plus 40 A350s – but just one A350-1000. It also recorded net orders for four A380s.
