Five outstanding Jet Airways orders for Airbus A330-200s have been cancelled in the wake of the Indian airline’s suspension of operations in April.
Jet had ordered 15 of the twinjets and 10 had already been delivered to the Mumbai-based carrier.
But Airbus’s latest backlog data, covering the first four months of 2019, shows that the outstanding five aircraft have been struck off.
The airline had originally ordered 10 A330-200s in 2005 and firmed options on five more in 2007.
Their cancellation effectively offset Airbus’s order gain for five twin-aisle aircraft in April, the only activity recorded by the airframer for the month, although the new orders have a higher catalogue price.
The five new aircraft include three A350-900s for maintenance company Lufthansa Technik, which is taking them on behalf of the German government.
Airbus also formally logged the two A330-800s firmed by Uganda Airlines on 5 April.
The loss of the Jet Airways A330s and the absence of other agreements meant that Airbus’s net order total to the end of April remained negative, with a deficit of 58 aircraft.
But it managed to deliver two A330-900s – one to TAP Portugal, one to Air Mauritius – as well as eight A350s during the month.
Airbus also delivered 60 single-aisle aircraft, among them 47 A320neo- and 10 conventional A320-family jets, plus three A220s.
Overall deliveries for the first four months reached 232 aircraft, 60 more than the 172 it managed over the same period last year.
