Qatar Airways' Airbus A380s are set for an early retirement, as the airline expects to begin phasing out the fleet from 2024.
"We feel that the aircraft does not have very long future in Qatar Airways' fleet," says group chief executive Akbar Al Baker.
"We would think about retiring those aeroplanes on their 10th anniversary, unless something untoward happens and we need them."
Al Baker says that this means that the airline's first A380 will be withdrawn in five years' time "because it would be 10 years old".
Qatar Airways operates a fleet of 10 Engine Alliance GP7200-powered A380s, the first of which was delivered in 2014. Cirium's Fleets Analyzer shows that the final one arrived last year.
The A380s feature a three-class layout and are nonstandard with the rest of the airline's fleet as they feature a first-class cabin. The jets do not incorporate Qatar's latest business seat, dubbed the Qsuite.
