US investment firm FMR has become the largest shareholder in the parent companies of American Airlines and United Airlines. In separate US Securities and Exchange Commission filings, Boston-based FMR says it now holds about 24.1 million shares, or 12.9%, in American’s parent AMR, and 12.9%, or about 12 million shares, of United’s parent UAL.
