A Boeing 737-200 freighter skidded off the runway landing in fog at Kuching in east Malaysia on 13 January, badly damaging the aircraft. One of the engines came off on impact, and engine parts and other debris were found along and near the edge of the runway, says Malaysia's Department of Civil Aviation (DCA). Arriving at 05:52, the 737 landed about 20-30m (66-100ft) short of the runway threshold, leaving skidmarks and breaking runway lights. It "didn't make it on to the centre of the runway" and skidded along the right side of the runway and shoulder before coming to rest about 1,000m from the runway threshold, says the DCA. Weather conditions at the time of the accident "were very foggy". The aircraft was wet-leased to Malaysian firm Gading Sari Aviation Services by Indonesian cargo-carrier RPX Airlines and was carrying mail from west Malaysia to Kuching.
