Four aircraft have been completely destroyed by a fire in a Sabena Technics maintenance hangar at Brussels Airport.

A Sabena spokesman confirms the aircraft belonged to Armenian carriers Armavia and Armenian Airlines, Greek charter operator HellasJet and the Belgian Air Force, but was unable to identify the specific aircraft involved.

Reports say that three Airbus A320s and a Hercules C-130 were destroyed in the fire.

It comes just days after Armavia lost one of its three A320s in a crash on approach to Sochi Airport, in which 113 people died.

Armenian Airlines, according to ATI sister product ACAS, has one A320 in active service, a 1993-model registered EK-32001. Reports suggest the Armavia A320 involved bears the registration EK-32010, while the Hellas Jet model is registered SX-BVB, though this could not immediately be confirmed

The fire broke out in hangar 40 at midnight last night, says the Sabena Technics spokesman. He declines to comment on the cause of the incident.

One member of Sabena Technics staff suffered serious burns in the fire and is being treated in hospital.

Further details will be revealed at a Sabena Technics press conference scheduled for 14:00.
