A UK pressure group is proposing a programme which would lead to fuel efficiency improvements of 23% by 2012. The Greener by Design Group - which represents airlines, aerospace manufacturers, airports, environmentalists and government - sees a major improvement in new engine and airframe design after this date. The intergovernmental panel on climate change recently projected an improvement of 20% by 2015.
