The Friends of Meigs Field is trying to establish a legal defence fund of around $100,000 to prevent further damage to the Chicago airport. The association says there is nothing legal standing in the way of further destruction of the airport, where the runway was bulldozed on 30 March under the instruction of Chicago mayor Richard Daley. The funds will be used to mount an appeal before the Illinois supreme court.
