Garuda Indonesia has become the 20th member of SkyTeam at a special event on the Indonesian resort island of Bali.
Garuda becomes the second Southeast Asian carrier to join SkyTeam after Vietnam Airlines, says the Indonesian carrier in a statement.
SkyTeam managing director Michael Wisbrun says Garuda’s entry will give its passengers access to SkyTeam’s 1,064 destinations.
"Joining SkyTeam is part of Garuda Indonesia’s progressive transformation program throughout all aspects of the company,” says Garuda president and chief executive Emirsyah Satar. “This milestone marks a momentous occasion in our airline's 65-year history and we look forward to a future collaboration with our alliance partners.”
