GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) has launched Aircraft Component Management (ACM), an inventory control division that manages and finances airline spare parts, writes Darren Shannon.

The new unit integrates software developed by Scottsdale, Arizona-based LogisTechs, a company GECAS has just acquired solely for its components management division. The lessor has owned a minority stake in the company since 2002. Under the new programme, GECAS purchases an individual carrier's inventory, provides logistical support (with its LogisTechs software), and finances replacements or repair in return for fixed, flight-hour-based fees.

Access to and control of the inventory is retained by the carrier, which also meets staffing requirements. The airline also has final authority on outsourcing repair work.

GECAS can provide support for Airbus A320s and Boeing Next Generation 737s, as well as for Bombardier and Embraer regional jets. Mesa Air Group signed up for the programme in June. That $25 million deal covered the sale, management and repair of spares for the regional carrier's Bombardier CRJ200s.
