Boeing's firm order count for the 737 Max climbed to 821 aircraft today after finalising a three-month-old commitment from General Electric Capital Aviation Services (GECAS).
The deal with GECAS includes 75 firm orders for the 737 Max 8 and 10 orders for the next-generation Boeing 737-800. The agreement allows for up to 15 737-800 options. The order, previously announced at the Farnborough air show in July, raises this week's order total for the 737 Max to 135 aircraft when including Gol's order for 60 of the narrowbody jets.
The 737 Max, which is powered by the CFM International Leap-1B engine, will enter service in five years. The GECAS order begins deliveries in 2018. The US-based lessor ordered the 737 Max 8, but has the option to convert the orders to the larger 737 Max 9.
For the Max configuration, Boeing also added a split-tip winglet, an improved tail cone tail cone and an extended landing gear.
