CAA REMINDER

The UK Civil Aviation Authority has issued a reminder to pilots of the current trial of GPS approaches for general aviation aircraft at six UK airports, following a "disappointingly low" start. "If the UK is to move forward with the introduction of GPS approaches then we need solid safety evidence and that can only be gained by pilot reports," says the CAA. The trial ends in October.

EMBRY SKYHAWKS

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has ordered 29 Cessna 172 Skyhawks equipped with Garmin G1000 integrated flightdecks, to join 40 Skyhawks in its all-Cessna training fleet.

PROVINCIAL DEAL

Canada's Provincial Airlines has clinched a 10-year, $100 million contract from the Dutch government to perform coastguard operations around the Dutch Antilles. The contract, which is set to begin at the end of next year, covers the design, modification, integration and operation of two Bombardier Dash 8 twin turboprops. Coastguard duties are now performed by the Royal Netherlands Air Force using a Fokker 60.

AMPHIBIAN BUY

Spain has placed a C$30.6 million ($27.1 million) order for immediate delivery of a Bombardier 415 amphibian to the air force firefighting unit, which already operates 14 215Ts and five 215s.
