Bombardier's Global 5000 has marked its Paris debut with its first speed record. The aircraft flew 3,510nm (6,500km) non-stop from Chicago to Paris in 7h, 15min - a transatlantic record. According to Bob Horner, Bombardier's vice-president, sales, Business Aircraft, the flight "sets a new transatlantic standard".

The aircraft took off from Palwaukee Airport's 5,000ft (1,525m) runway and climbed directly to 41,000ft. On board was a four-person crew and a payload of 1,600lb (727kg), equivalent to eight passengers.

Bombardier says the aircraft cruised at Mach 0.88, arriving at Le Bourget with fuel reserves in excess of NBAA IFR requirements. In 2004 the Global 5000 set two distance records. In July the aircraft flew 4,816nm non-stop from San Francisco to London in 9h 34min; and in October it flew 4,597nm non-stop from Dublin to Las Vegas in 9h, 55min. The first Global 5000 entered service this April with a Middle East corporate operator.
