Brazilian carrier Gol will roll out a new in-flight entertainment platform on board its fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft from September, to be available to passengers with WiFi-enabled devices.
Called Gol No Ar, or Gol On Air, the new service will offer news, magazine and newspaper articles, TV shows, sports, games and music channels at no charge, said the airline.
"At first, access will take place via the iPhone, iPad and touch iPod, as well as netbooks and notebooks with a WiFi connection. In the future, the solution will also be available for other tablets and smartphones," said Gol's VP of market and new businesses Claudia Pagnano.
Thirty-five of Gol's 737 aircraft have already been equipped with the capability, it said. Installation on the remaining fleet will be gradual. The airline operates 97 737s, shows Flightglobal's ACAS database. Gol said it will initially offer the product on about 250 daily flights before expanding it to 380 daily flights by year-end.
"Installation is rapid and there is no need to interrupt normal operations as is common in the sector," said Pagnano.
During operations, the entertainment platform will be automatically updated on landing at nine airports in Brazil, said Gol.
