Flight International online news 08:30 GMT: Asiana Airlines’ management and its pilots’ union held talks over the weekend at the behest of the South Korean Government but were unable to reach an agreement to end the three-week long strike.
The Asiana pilots’ union has, among other demands, said it wants to be involved in management decision-making but the company says it cannot accommodate this request.
It remains unclear when the two sides will hold talks again. The government has pronounced it will implement emergency powers to resolve the dispute if a solution is not found soon.
From 17 July, when the pilots went on strike, to yesterday the carrier had lost $348 million in revenue, according to Asiana.
The carrier has also announced new flight cancellations for the month of August which add to cutbacks announced earlier. International passenger service cancellations are now spread across 16 routes rather than 11.
Asiana has also been cancelling around half its domestic passenger services each day and all its international cargo services.
