The Greek air force has taken delivery of the first two of four Erieye airborne warning and control systems. Each comprises an Ericsson Erieye radar mounted on an Embraer RJ-145 regional jet. The system has also been ordered by Mexico, and by Brazil for its Sivam Amazon surveillance programme. The Swedish air force operates Saab 340 turboprops equipped with the same radar. To gain experience with Erieye, the Greek air force has been operating Swedish air force aircraft for around a year. Ericsson says the radar, which has a 450km (240nm) range, is part of a package built to meet NATO interoperability requirements.
