GULFSTREAM HAS completed static testing of the Gulfstream V long-range business jet. The test airframe, is now being refurbished for use as a demonstrator aircraft and is scheduled to be displayed at the US National Business Aircraft Association convention in Orlando, Florida, in November, equipped with a full interior.

The manufacturer says that static testing for US and European certification was completed in 16 weeks, two weeks ahead of schedule. The static-tests included checking aileron and spoiler operation at maximum upwards and down-wards wing-deflection, as well as pressurisation proof-testing at 167% of the GV's increased design cabin-pressure differential.

Data were collected from more than 2,060 strain gauges. Loads were applied using 56 computer-controlled actuators, via cables attached to 650 stress points on the fuselage. Refurbishment requires removal of the cable-attachment blocks, which were glued to the GV airframe.

Gulfstream says that flight-testing of two GVs continues, with demonstrated manoeuvre margins at high altitudes exceeding its predictions. The aircraft has been banked 45¡ at 51,000ft (15,550m) without buffet, according to the manufacturer.
