China service
Qiantang Airways signed a deal at Le Bourget yesterday to engine its ten Airbus A319/A320s with CFM56-5B engine. The order is valued at around $150 million.
The airline will take delivery between 2009 and 2011  This Chinese start up, is the first private airline in China’s Zhejiang province and has been in development since June 2006.   The airline is based in Hangzhou, and will begin scheduled passenger services in January 2008.

It’s a steel
Demand for high-alloy, vacuum-remelted steels remains high, according to Hans Sack, president and CEO of Latrobe Speciality Steel (Hall 4/E2). As a result Latrobe plans to triple its production capacity.
“The commercial airframe producers, the rotorcraft builders, landing gear manufacturers and defence contractors have all asked us to deliver more material with shorter delivery times,” Sack says.
The company plans to build a new production facility comprising a 30-ton vacuum induction and at least three vacuum arc remelt furnaces (VAR).

FAC expands
The Farnborough Aerospace Consortium (FAC) has announced the opening of its first overseas office, in Dubai. This important expansion for FAC comes at exciting stage in the development of the UK regional aerospace group, which represents more than 400 member companies across southeast England.

IAE gets Blue Wings
German airline Blue Wings has chosen IAE International’s V2500 engines to power its previously announced order of 20 Airbus A320 aircraft. The deal is valued in excess of $350 million. As part of the agreement, Blue Wings has agreed commercial terms for IAE’s SelectOne engine upgrade.
 
Dubai MRO show
Dubai’s strategy to become a world centre for aviation and aerospace has taken another step forward with the announcement yesterday that it is to host a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) conference and exhibition. MRO Middle East is organised by Fairs & Exhibitions and will be held at the Airport Expo Dubai in February 2009.
