Air Canada Jazz and Lufthansa CityLine are to install the Rockwell Collins HGS-4200 head-up guidance system (HGS) following Canadian, European and US certification for use on the Bombardier CRJ705 and CRJ900.
Jazz will begin equipping its 15 CRJ705s by year-end while Lufthansa’s subsidiary has specified the system for the 12 CRJ900s it has ordered.
Rockwell Collins’ HGS raises the approved approach minima from Category 2 to Cat 3, which halves the decision height from 100ft (30.5m) to 50ft and the runway visual range (RVR) from 550m to 200m. The HGS’s low-visibility take-off capability reduces the minimum RVR required for take-off from 125m to 75m.
