Heathrow Airport plans to sell Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports by the end of 2014.
The company, owner of London Heathrow, says it is now formally entering a sale process to offload the regional gateways.
“Over recent months, Heathrow Airport Holdings group shareholders and management have been considering their strategic position in relation to our three airports Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton,” the company says, adding: “Whilst there is currently no certainty that a sale will be concluded, the group intends to work towards completing a transaction by the end of the year.”
If the sales are completed, Heathrow Airport, formally BAA, will be left with just the West London hub on its books, having sold Gatwick to Global Infrastructure Partners in 2009 and Stansted to the Manchester Airports Group last year.
