Major exhibitor Lufthansa Technik is expanding in the region by setting up a centre for the heavy maintenance of Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft as part of its subsidiary Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP).

The extensive renovation of LTP's four-bay hangar, workshops and painting facilities will be completed by July 2002. Two docks are being fitted for A330/A340 overhaul.

Centrally located in Southeast Asia, LTP is currently offering MRO services - up to ‘C' checks - for all B737, B747-200, B747-400 and A320 models as well as for the A330 and A340.

Fleet

It serves the entire Philippine Airlines fleet under a comprehensive agreement and also deals with both routine and non-routine line maintenance, troubleshooting, IFE maintenance, aircraft servicing and materials handling for Singapore Airlines, China Airlines, Korean Air Lines, Nippon Cargo and other carriers. In addition to line and base maintenance, LTP also provides engine and component repair and overhaul services.

To meet the growing need for A330/A340 overhauls in the region, LTP will start providing the service this year. The first ‘D' check customer will be a Phillippine Airlines A340 scheduled for October 2002, followed in January 2003 by an A340 belonging to Lufthansa itself.

LTP is a joint venture of Lufthansa Technik AG (which holds a 51% interest) and MacroAsia which holds the remainder.

It took over the maintenance and engineering operations of Phillippine Airlines on 1 September 2000 and has spacious facilities at Manila airport, including a 230,000m2 working area including a four-bay hangar for wide-body aircraft.
