Boeing has secured a five-year, $3.4 billion deal to provide 268 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to the US Army and an international customer.
Of the 268 aircraft, 244 will be remanufactured and go to the US Army, while 24 newly built rotorcraft will go to the international customer, says Boeing in a statement.
Boeing’s statement did not specify the international customer, but it was announced in June 2016 that Qatar would buy 24 AH-64Es through the US government’s foreign military sales mechanism.
Flight Fleets Analyzer indicates that Qatar is the only international customer that has specifically ordered 24 AH-64Es.
Boeing adds that this is the first multi-year deal for the ‘E’ variant of the AH-64.
"This agreement is great news for our Army, our soldiers, the American taxpayers, our industry partners and numerous international partners,” said U.S. Army Col Joseph Hoecherl, the Apache project manager.
“It is a direct result of the professional dedication and diligent efforts by government and industry teammates to provide the much needed capabilities of the world's best attack helicopter - the AH-64E Apache - at a fair and affordable price that results in year over year savings to the taxpayer. In the hands of our trained U.S. soldiers, the Apache's technologies and resulting capabilities are essential to Army operations around the globe."
Boeing adds that 15 countries operate the AH-64, and that seven international customers have ordered the ‘E’ variant.
