A Bell-Boeing MV-22 Osprey crashed during “routine sustainment training” in Hawaii on 17 May, killing one Marine and injuring 20 others and one Navy corpsman, service officials say in a news release.
The incident at 11:40am at the Marines’ Bellows Training Area on the island of Oahu is under investigation, the Marines say.
The MV-22 had departed San Diego on 10 May with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Essex on a seven-month deployment around the Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as the Red Sea and Persian Gulf.
