The Indian air force’s first four Boeing CH-47F Chinook transport helicopters have arrived in the country, with their induction to service due later this year. The rotorcraft have arrived at Mundra Port in the western state of Gujarat, the manufacturer confirms.
“The ahead-of-schedule arrival of the Chinooks validates Boeing’s commitment to delivering on its promise of modernising India’s defence forces,” the company says.
In 2015, New Delhi signed contracts for 15 CH-47Fs and 22 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters. Last July, the US Department of State approved a potentially $930 million deal to add a further six Apaches to its procurement.
Boeing performed first flights of both types for its Indian customer in the USA last July.
