Honeywell has acquired privately held Baker Electronics in a move that will enable it to offer integrated digital cabin management systems for business jets. Sarasota, Florida-based Baker is a leading supplier of cabin electronics, including moving-map displays, audio/video distribution systems and passenger service units.

The business is being renamed Honeywell Cabin Management Systems and Services and will combine Baker's product line with Honeywell's satellite communications and television systems to provide integrated "office in the sky" products being sought by business jet manufacturers, says Sarasota site leader Tim Swords.

Swords says Honeywell's OneLink communications and OneView television services, as well as its InFlight Mail and e-Paxx products, will be marketed with the Baker equipment. "Baker is a good match," he says. A decision on whether to continue Baker's link with inflight e-mail provider Tenzing will be required, Swords says.

Honeywell, Thales and the Thales/L-3 joint venture ACSS have agreed to non-binding arbitration to resolve patent disputes over terrain awareness warning systems technology, and plan to keep the result secret. Disputes between Honeywell and Goodrich, Sandel Avionics and Universal Avionics remain unresolved.
