Honeywell has announced its eighth win on the Airbus A380 project. The company has been selected to supply the next-generation air data inertial reference unit (ADIRU) for the A380, as well as for the A330/A340 and A320 aircraft superjumbo.

The total value of the contract is estimated at $390 million over the life of the programs, including follow-on sales of spare units and other aftermarket business.

The Honeywell ADIRU is designed as a triple-redundant system. It supplies information to the flight management system (FMS) and other systems about altitude, air speed, air temperature, attitude and aircraft position.

Bob Johnson, president and CEO of Honeywell Aerospace, says: "This is another demonstration of Honeywell's ability to introduce and deliver a great diversity of innovative products, technologies and services that will make flights safer in the 21st century."

The seven other A380 programmes already won by Honeywell are:

Next-generation FMS Aircraft environment surveillance system (AESS) Electromechanical thrust reverser – in partnership with Hispano-Suiza (SNECMA Group) Pneumatic system on the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine Secondary electric power distribution systems (SEPDS) Wheels and brakes – in partnership with Dunlop Aerospace Precoolers of the Liebherr bleed air system.
