The third of six gyroscopes on the Hubble Space Telescope has failed. One more failure would put the telescope in a protective safe mode, preventing further observations. The accelerated third Space Shuttle servicing mission, which will replace the gyroscopes, is due in October. The mission has been brought forward from June next year.
