US Airways has selected International Aero Engines (IAE) over CFM International to power up to 153 Airbus A320 family aircraft. The Star Alliance member already operates 196 A320 family aircraft, of which 94 are powered by IAE’s V2500 powerplant.

It's latest order includes V2500s for 78 firm aircraft valued at approximately $1.3 billion. The order includes engines to IAE’s new SelectOne build standard, which is designed to reduce fuel burn and improve reliability. Deliveries begin in November 2008.

According to Flight’s ACAS database, US Airways has a mixture of A319s, A320s and A321s on order with the manufacturer.

“This has been a demanding campaign during which US Airways has conducted a highly professional and detailed examination of all the options available to them,” says IAE president and CEO Jon Beatty in a statement.
