Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) division Malat is developing a plug-and-play system design for its future unmanned air vehicle (UAV) that will allow the platform to carry more payloads and double its service life.
The plug-and-play design, which builds on the company's adaptable UAV platform, will extend payload flexibility to the "ultimate level", it says. Work has started on the plug-and-play feature, but its implementation will depend on progress in the standardisation process, says Malat.
Jacques Chemla, Malat deputy director of engineering, says that the company's existing adaptable design is based on having a large volume fuselage and installation of the payloads as close as possible to the centre of gravity.
