Northern polar, trans-Asia and trans-Siberia routes, which have already seen successful commercial demonstration flights by United Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airlines and British Airways, have been officially approved by the International Civil Aviation Organisation. Its president Dr Assad Kotaite says ICAO will monitor the progress of implementation and expansion of the route network, which he says will benefit the flying public while reducing fuel burn, and thus harm to the environment.
