Icelandair will launch new service to Portland International airport in May 2015, bringing its North American network to 14 cities.
The carrier will serve the Oregon city twice weekly from its Reykjavik hub on a 183-seat Boeing 757-200 from 20 May 2015 through 21 October 2015, it says in a statement.
Passengers will be able to connect in Reykjavik to Icelandair’s flights on to the European continent, as well as in Portland to Alaska Airlines’ flights to destinations on the US west coast.
“The past six years have been very positive for Icelandair and we aim to continue on the same path in 2015," says Birkir Holm Gudnason, chief executive of the carrier, in a statement. "With today's announcements we will continue to strengthen our position in the international market between North America and Europe, offering increased flight capacity, new gateways, and more aircraft than any year prior.”
Portland complements Icelandair’s service to Seattle/Tacoma and Vancouver in the Pacific Northwest.
The announcement comes a week after German leisure carrier Condor announced that it would begin twice-weekly seasonal service to Portland from Frankfurt in June 2015.
No other carriers fly between Portland and Reykjavik, Innovata schedules show.
