Boeing plans to establish a new subsidiary company in Saudi Arabia to improve access for the US technical personnel needed to support Royal Saudi Air Force upgrade projects. It would act as an adjunct to the manufacturer's strategic relationship with Riyadh-based Alsalam Aircraft, which provides contracted maintenance to Saudi Arabia's Boeing 707-based E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft, F-15S fighters and AH-64A Apache attack helicopters.
"We are looking for ways to establish a subsidiary in Saudi Arabia to offer lower cost US technicians to Alsalam, as they are the prime contractor for programmes like the AWACS upgrade and F-15 depot maintenance," says Jeffrey Johnson, vice-president Middle East for Boeing Integrated Defense Systems. The venture is expected to be in place later this quarter, he says, and will also pursue business opportunities in Egypt, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
