Smile please! This photograph of the Palm Island Development in the UAE was taken from 423 miles (680km) up in space as the Ikonos satellite moved over the Earth at 17,000 mph (15,000kt).
Ikonos ushered in a new era of commercial high-resolution Earth imagery when Space Imaging launched the satellite in 1999. Since then it has documented the ever-changing world with more than 1.7 million images.
