A new piece of equipment that could enhance on board catering, reduce health risks and save space has been unveiled at ILA.

B&W is launching the A-LogEqu an eco-friendly galley insert designed to store hot or cold water in a food-safe plastic bag with a tab and a hose inside a firm corrugated box with a plastic handle.

“Hot water machines and coffee machines can use up a lot of power and space” says inventor Hubert Walter.

“They also get lime-scale in the pipes, which is un-hygienic and potentially be unhealthy. The Bag-in-Pack is cable-free, recyclable, insulated box, which can hold 12 litres of water, hot or cold, and keep to the required temperature for 15 hours.”

B&W looked further into saving space and weight within aircraft catering and has developed ‘concentrate sticks’. The sticks are literally concentrated forms of beverages such as coffee, tea and fruit juices inside a sachet, which have to be added to water.  Each drink serves a regular cup and holds all its natural ingredients
Walter points out: “Flights install many litres of beverages into its galleys and after the flight almost 70% are returned unused. “This revolutionary idea saves a huge amount of space as well as waste, as the sticks, depending what they are, can keep between six weeks and four months.”

Another member of the A-LogEqu family developed by the company from Helm, Germany, - the birth place of Albert Einstein- is a ‘drawer’. The small and flexible storage container is compatible with all existing systems like standard units and trolleys.

“Short haul flights don’t serve hot food as there is no time to cook it.  This drawer offers six litres of temperature sensitive goods, which can include ice-cream,” says Walter. “For instance, it might be of interest to VIPs as stewards can offer them a hot breakfast – even if it is very short flight."
