Though the long-running MiG-29SMT programme has failed to result in the delivery of upgraded aircraft to the Russian air forces, a number of aircraft have been converted, and manufacturers' trials have been completed. Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG’s designergeneral, Anatoly Belov insists that the Russian air forces will order an upgrade for its remaining fleet of MiG-29s, “along the lines of the SMT upgrade”, and that it will order new-build MiG-29s as well.
