The UK Royal Air Force is to equip its Westland Sea King HAR 3 helicopters with Rohde & Schwarz M3AR series air traffic control radios to help maintain their search and rescue capabilities until the type is retired from service. The aircraft are currently flying with obsolete VHF and UHF radios, installed when the aircraft were built. "This will save the Ministry of Defence circa £2 million [$2.9 million] before the 2017 aircraft out-of-service date," says Sea King project team project officer Tony Arnold.
