Hawaii gains bilateral rights

Washington is inviting foreign airlines to serve Hawaii outside existing bilaterals. Airlines from any country except the UK may now fly to Honolulu and Kona, and from there to the US mainland. Washington hopes these new rights will help boost Hawaii's economy.

United e-commerce launch

United Airlines plans to launch an e-commerce subsidiary to maximise sales over the Internet. A team of nearly 70 employees will join a new e-commerce division, headed by Scott Praven, which will ultimately become a new subsidiary.

Founders' club

Detroit-based low-fares carrier Pro Air has opened a "founding passenger programme" for people who have travelled on the carrier since its launch on 4 July, 1997. Members will have exclusive access to the lowest fares without advance purchase requirements.

New look BWIA

BWIA International has unveiled a new corporate identity that includes a new livery and redesigned uniforms. The Trinidad and Tobago-based airline has received the first of six new Boeing 737-800s and the third of its new fleet of Bombardier Dash 8Q-400s.
